The speaker of the Iranian parliament Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf mocked the American military blockade with a message posted on social media, warning Americans about the consequences for fuel prices.
"Enjoy the current prices at the pumps. With this so-called 'blockade,' you'll soon be looking back nostalgically at 4 to 5 dollar fuel", wrote Ghalibaf, who had been leading peace negotiations in Pakistan.
The statement came after the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced a blockade of maritime traffic to Iranian ports.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi commented that the US and Iran had been close to an agreement during negotiations, but that Tehran faced "maximalist demands, changing rules, and a blockade".
Ghalibaf emphasized that Iran will not surrender to threats. In response to American threats, Iranian naval forces stated they would act harshly against any military vessel that approaches the area.
