Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban addressed citizens after acknowledging the election defeat, describing the result as "painful" for his party Fidesz.

"We do not know what the election results will mean for the fate of our country and nation - time will tell, but we will serve our country from the opposition as well," Orban stated.

He emphasized that his party has a clear task ahead. "The burden of governance is not on our shoulders, so our job now is to strengthen our community. 2.5 million Hungarians support us and we will never abandon them," he added.

The statement came after the opposition party Tisza secured a convincing majority in the parliamentary elections, with Fidesz moving into opposition. Orban had previously congratulated the Tisza leader, Peter Magyar, on the election victory by phone.

This is the first time in over a decade that Orban has acknowledged a loss of power, opening a new chapter in Hungarian politics.
