Pakistan last night bombed the Afghan capital Kabul and two other provinces, just hours after Afghan forces carried out a cross-border attack. This is the latest escalation of violence between the neighbors, who signed a Qatar-brokered ceasefire last year.
Afghan forces last night attacked Pakistani border troops in what the Taliban government described as retaliation for previous deadly airstrikes. Several hours later, at least three explosions were heard in Kabul.
The Afghan Ministry of Defense announced that 55 Pakistani soldiers were killed in the attack, including some whose bodies were transported by plane to Afghanistan, while "several others were captured alive." They stated that eight people were killed on their side, and another 11 were wounded.
