Air raid alarm sirens went off at approximately 3:25 a.m. at NATO's Incirlik base near Adana in southern Turkey, with a Red Alert declared. Residents of Adana, located about 10 kilometers away, were awakened in the middle of the night.

Citizens filmed video showing a luminous object in the sky, suggesting a possible ballistic missile directed at the base. Turkey's state news agency confirmed two ballistic missiles headed toward Turkey were intercepted by NATO air defense systems. Unofficial sources indicated Iran had targeted the base.

This incident occurred four days after NATO air defenses previously shot down another ballistic missile in Turkish airspace, also attributed to Iran. After the confirmed shootdown, Turkey warned Iran against provocative actions.

The US State Department announced the closure of the consulate in Adana and urged American citizens to leave southeastern Turkey. NATO deployed additional Patriot air defense systems in the region.
