Russia after Orban's fall: This will accelerate the EU's disintegration

Russia reacted urgently to the election results in Hungary, where Viktor Orban's party suffered a historic defeat. Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, predicted that the change of power in Budapest would accelerate the disintegration of the European Union.

"This will only accelerate the disintegration of the EU. Check back in four months whether I'm right," Dmitriev stated, reacting to a comment by British activist Tommy Robinson who described Hungary as a country that "fell," and "the death of Europe continues."

Peter Magyar's Tisza party achieved unprecedented election results, winning 138 out of 199 parliamentary seats, while Orban's Fidesz secured only 55 seats.

Orban acknowledged the election defeat, describing the results as "painful" for his party, but promising that he would continue to serve Hungary from the opposition.

The loss for Orban, who was one of the rare European leaders with close relations with Moscow, represents a blow to Russian interests on the continent, especially in the context of the continuing conflict in Ukraine.
