SDSM leader Filipche: Early elections inevitable as government faces serious problems

SDSM opposition leader Venko Filipche predicted early parliamentary elections and warned that the government is unable to handle the growing financial and political problems. "Early elections will not only happen — the government will not know where to hide from the problems it has created through its own mistaken policies," Filipche said.

The opposition leader pointed to serious budget difficulties. "The budget deficit is so large that pension and salary payments are at risk. Where will they find money? They are taking new loans with unknown interest rates from who knows where," Filipche said, predicting that this will lead to union protests.

In the context of ongoing international crises, Filipche defended the political price paid for Macedonia's NATO membership. "Today it is clear how important SDSM's visionary policy was. We made political sacrifices, but we became a NATO member — part of the strongest defense alliance in the world."

On the judicial front, Filipche called for the establishment of a European Public Prosecutor's Office and European judicial oversight in the country, arguing that real justice will not come through "this kind of politicization of the judiciary."

The opposition leader also criticized the government for failing to honor commitments related to the Prespa Agreement and for not fulfilling the reform agenda, assessing that citizens will punish the ruling majority at the next elections.
