SDSM and VMRO-DPMNE exchange new accusations over the Grubi case

The case involving Arjan Grubi, former Deputy Prime Minister, has once again sparked a fierce political debate between VMRO-DPMNE and SDSM. The two parties are trading accusations — one side for protecting criminal conduct, the other for politically staging the justice system.

Brane Petrushevski, a VMRO-DPMNE representative, held a press conference accusing SDSM of deliberately avoiding the Grubi topic and failing to demonstrate genuine commitment to fighting corruption. He emphasised that the coordinated action of the competent authorities in apprehending the accused proves the firm rule of law. "The fight against corruption and crime is decisive," Petrushevski stated.

SDSM, through its spokesperson Bogdanka Kuzeska, challenged the security assessments that served as the basis for approving the accused's house arrest. She stated that neither the Intelligence Agency nor the MoI had conducted such assessments, and the prosecution's decision was based on information publicly referred to as "information from foreign services." "If there is no assessment from the Intelligence Agency and the MoI, on what basis did the prosecution decide on house arrest?" asked Kuzeska.

She described the entire proceedings as a "scripted circus" and accused the authorities of controlling both the media and the prosecution in order to create a false image of fighting corruption.

VMRO-DPMNE, meanwhile, claims that SDSM had protected the accused because they were "allies in his crime." The court case continues to divide political forces — one side presenting it as proof of justice, the other as political overreach.
