Serbia has become the first European country to acquire the Chinese CM-400 supersonic missiles with a range of up to 250 km, after amateur photos revealed the weapons mounted on MiG-29 combat aircraft at the Batajnica air base.
President Vucic confirmed the acquisition, but refused to disclose the price and quantity, despite obligations established by international conventions. Croatia notified NATO of the acquisition, increasing tensions in the region.
Specifications of the CM-400AKG missile, manufactured by China's CASIC: length 5.1 meters, caliber 400mm, weight 910 kg, speed up to Mach 4.5 in the terminal phase, range minimum 250 km. The missile carries interchangeable warheads - 150 kg explosive or 200 kg penetrating. Besides Serbia, only Pakistan operates such systems.
Military analyst Aleksandar Radic called this "a drastic step forward" exceeding Serbia's previous capabilities. In the last five years, 61 percent of Serbia's defense imports came from China, and in 2024-2025 alone, Chinese military goods worth over 240 million euros were imported.
