Citizens of Shtip paid tribute last night to those who died in the fire at the "Puls" nightclub in Kochani, at a commemorative gathering on the "Sloboda" city square. A year after the tragedy, residents, families, and friends gathered to remember the five Shtip citizens who lost their lives.
The commemorative program began with the laying of a cornerstone for a memorial near the small fountain, followed by candle lighting and a symbolic "starry sky" created when attendees illuminated their mobile phones.
The names of Filip Ivanovski, Damjan Tanevski, Aleksandar Efremov, Filip Stevanovski, and Aleksandar Kolarov will be engraved on the memorial. The planned monument will feature five doves and an angel, representing the lost lives.
The commemoration in Shtip coincided with the first anniversary of the fire at "Puls" that claimed 63 lives. In Kochani, the anniversary was marked with a three-day program of religious, commemorative, and cultural events.
The silence in Shtip carried a broader meaning — a message that remembrance extends beyond the place where the headlines end. In Kumanovo, an event called "Heart for 63 Lights" was also held with a starry sky display on the city square.
