UN Prepares Hormuz Strait Resolution - China Blocked Previous Version

The United Nations Security Council is preparing a new resolution addressing the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz after China vetoed a previous version that Beijing deemed too one-sided.

The revised draft reportedly takes a more balanced approach, calling on all parties to ensure freedom of navigation while acknowledging Iran\'s security concerns in the region. Diplomats say the new text was crafted after extensive consultations with the Chinese delegation.

China\'s ambassador explained that Beijing blocked the earlier resolution because it "failed to address the root causes of the crisis" and placed disproportionate blame on Iran. China has significant economic interests in maintaining stable oil flows through the strait.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world\'s most critical chokepoints, with approximately 20% of global oil supply passing through the narrow waterway daily. Any disruption could have devastating consequences for the global economy.

A vote on the new resolution is expected within days, though its passage remains far from guaranteed.
