Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić confirmed that Serbia has purchased air-to-ground hypersonic ballistic missiles from China (CM-400 system), capable of hitting targets at ranges of up to 400 kilometers. Photos of MiG-29 aircraft with the new missiles appeared on March 9.
"We have a significant number of these missiles and we will have even more," Vučić stated, emphasizing that Serbia is the third country in the world and the first in Europe to possess hypersonic ballistic missiles. He claims the country has sufficient deterrence capacity against Croatia, Albania, and Kosovo combined.
Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković stated that Zagreb will warn its NATO partners about the new weapons in the Serbian armed forces' arsenal, emphasizing that he does not expect Serbia to use the missiles against neighboring countries. Plenković characterized the weapons as "serious".
Vučić simultaneously stated that Serbia will preserve its neutrality and will not join NATO, emphasizing that he does not intend to attack anyone, only to defend.
