One year after the tragedy in Kochani, regulations for obtaining licenses for hospitality venues remain unchanged, according to a regulatory analysis.
Despite promises of systemic reforms following the Pulse fire that claimed 63 lives, institutions have still not tightened safety requirements for nightclubs and entertainment venues.
At the international conference in Skopje, President Siljanovska-Davkova stated that "Kochani was a moment of national shock, but also societal catharsis." Interior Minister Toshkovski noted that 3,000 police officers had been deployed to secure the anniversary events.
Officials emphasized that institutions had a duty to react quickly after the tragedy. However, critics point out that words have not translated into concrete regulatory changes that would prevent a future catastrophe.
During the conference, a National Mass Casualty Plan was presented, developed with the support of international medical experts.
