Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for Russia's Foreign Ministry, emphasized that Kosovo and Metohija represent "an inseparable part of Serbia" with the status of broad autonomy, as defined in the Constitution of Serbia. She referred to UN Security Council Resolution 1244, which confirms the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia.
Zakharova criticized the EU's approach, claiming that "this process has long transformed into a politicized game of deception, through which Brussels is increasing pressure on Belgrade." She additionally stated that the EU "has been extorting Belgrade for years" instead of offering genuine assistance in Kosovo negotiations.
Zakharova noted that the European written guarantees from 2013 regarding the formation of the Community of Serbian Municipalities in the region "have long been forgotten in Brussels," while the EU simultaneously allows Pristina authorities to continue with demographic changes in the province.
