British Ambassador Denies Filipche – No Migrant Agreement, Mickoski Accuses Him of Lying

British Ambassador Matthew Lawson officially denied rumors of a secret agreement between Macedonia and the United Kingdom on accepting migrants, stating: "No agreement exists, nor has there ever been one, for migrants in exchange for money." The announcement came after opposition leader Venko Filipche and SDSM had for months claimed Macedonia would become a camp for migrants from the UK.

Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski reacted sharply, accusing SDSM of a "deeply destructive and potentially dangerous" pattern of political behavior. In his words, the pattern is always the same: "A sensationalist story is fabricated, media panic is created, and when the facts expose it, the topic simply disappears." He added that this behavior has reduced SDSM's votes to only around 100,000.

VMRO-DPMNE stressed that all relevant state institutions had denied SDSM's claims, and that even the diplomatic world had to directly confront them with facts. The government presented the Strategic Partnership between Macedonia and the United Kingdom, stating it is a diplomatic and economic project with potential for investment in infrastructure, transport, healthcare, and railways.

Mickoski quoted Napoleon's wisdom "Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake," but simultaneously stated he would not follow that advice, because Macedonia deserves a serious opposition. While SDSM denies the accusations, the denials by the ambassador and the government closed this controversy with a completely clear outcome.
