Democratic Union issued a statement regarding the geopolitical tensions connected to the conflict in Iran, calling on all political parties for unity and statesmanship. The party warned that international crises must not be exploited for narrow political goals and called for avoiding unnecessary panic among citizens.
"Negative reactions are present everywhere in the world, but through the media and social networks they are amplified and create nervousness and a psychosis of insecurity. This particularly affects markets and stock exchanges, and leads to artificial disruption of energy supply," the party's statement reads. Democratic Union expressed confidence that the conflict in Iran "will end very soon" and that peace negotiations will follow.
In the statement, the party recommends Macedonia continue following the policies of the United States and the European Union, while keeping attention to national and strategic interests. Democratic Union stressed the need for "reasonable, responsible, and patient governance" during this period of geopolitical and security instability.
The party also criticized the manner in which some political actors are using the tensions to gain short-term political points, assessing this as destructive at a time when the country needs to speak with one voice to the world. A message of unity, responsibility, and patience – that is the essential tone of Democratic Union's reaction at the current moment.
