Filipce: Even 600 Euros Is Not Enough to Survive With These Price Hikes

Opposition figure Venko Filipce sharply criticized the government's economic policies, stating that even a monthly salary of 600 euros is no longer sufficient for basic survival given the relentless wave of price increases hitting Macedonian households.

Filipce pointed to rising costs of food, utilities, fuel, and basic services as evidence that the government has failed to protect citizens' living standards. He argued that wage growth has been completely outpaced by inflation, leaving most families worse off than they were a year ago.

The government pushed back, citing recent minimum wage increases and social protection measures as evidence of its commitment to supporting vulnerable populations. Officials argued that global factors, including the energy crisis and supply chain disruptions, are the primary drivers of inflation.

The cost of living has become the dominant political issue in North Macedonia, with polls showing that economic concerns far outweigh all other issues for voters. Both ruling and opposition parties are positioning themselves on the issue ahead of future electoral cycles.
