French President Emmanuel Macron told Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian that it is "unacceptable" for France to be a target of attacks in the Middle East and demanded the urgent return of two French citizens detained in Iran.

"I reminded him that France acts exclusively within a defensive framework aimed at protecting our interests, the interests of regional partners, and freedom of navigation, and that it is unacceptable for our country to be a target," Macron stated.

The French leader stressed the importance of restoring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. "Freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz must be restored as soon as possible," he emphasized.

Macron underlined that lasting stability requires a new political and security framework that would address Iran's nuclear ambitions, its ballistic missile program, and regional activities. "Only a new political and security framework can guarantee peace and security for all," he added.
