Opposition criticizes government for lack of measures ahead of Easter

The opposition SDSM criticized the government of Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski for the absence of protective measures for citizens ahead of the Easter holidays, when household expenses are traditionally at their highest.

According to the party's statement, prices of basic food products have risen drastically. Lamb has reached 700 denars per kilogram, eggs and olive oil have become more expensive, and tomatoes are selling for over 200 denars per kilogram. Fruit and vegetables in general are recording the highest price increases.

SDSM claims it offered concrete solutions several weeks ago, including reductions in fuel and food prices, but the government ignored them. The party accused the prime minister of leaving citizens to cope with high prices on their own during a period when family budgets are under the greatest pressure.

The party demanded urgent government intervention instead of postponing measures until after the holidays, assessing the government's economic policies as delayed, insufficient, and misguided.

Levica also joined the criticism, stating that Easter prices are proof that the people can no longer survive. The party pointed out that over 30 percent of the population lives below the poverty line, and a large portion of citizens are forced to borrow from credit bureaus at high interest rates to meet basic needs. Levica demanded limits on profit margins for essential products, a reduction of VAT on food, and strengthened inspection controls.
