The Macedonian Parliament today held its 92nd plenary session with several important legislative matters on the agenda. Among the central items is the draft Law on the Public Prosecutor's Office, which is in first reading, along with draft amendments to the Value Added Tax Law and the Profit Tax Law.
MPs also debated the draft Law on Organic Agricultural Production, which is in second reading. Through an expedited procedure, Parliament reviewed amendments to the law on VAT refunds for individuals, amendments to the VAT Law itself, and the Forest Law.
The draft Law on the Public Prosecutor's Office is one of the more important legislative solutions at this session – it envisages structural changes in the manner of organization and operation of the Public Prosecutor's Office of Macedonia. The reform of this institution is part of the broader process of harmonization with European standards and a condition for advancing the rule of law.
The agenda also includes the review of the Annual Report on the work of the Commission overseeing the implementation of communications surveillance measures for 2025, through which Parliament exercises its oversight function over the use of so-called "wiretapping" powers of state bodies.
