Defence in "Pulse" Case Seeks Revision of Charges – No Guilt for Those Without Direct Role

Lawyers for some of the accused in the "Pulse" case – which concerns the catastrophic fire at a nightclub in Kočani – submitted an initiative to the Public Prosecution requesting a revision of the indictment. The initiative was directed to the expert collegium and to the acting public prosecutor.

The initiative claims that some of the accused had no "direct actions and jurisdiction" during the period when the fire occurred (14–16 March 2025). Specifically, some of them left their positions 7 to 12 years before the tragedy, and therefore, the lawyers argue, no causal link with the event can be attributed to them.

The defence is requesting a separation of proceedings, particularly for the police officers who were on the ground on the fateful night. Previously, the Skopje Basic Criminal Court approved the indictment against 13 police officers who had conducted inspections at the nightclub.

The Public Prosecution stated it would not comment until it officially receives the initiative, and that it would then decide whether to forward it to the expert collegium for consideration.

The "Pulse" case is one of the highest-profile criminal legal matters in Macedonia in recent months, with numerous accused individuals and a complex legal process that is only beginning to reveal its outcomes.
