The Ministry of Transport and Communications issued a tender for the procurement of 150 electric eco-friendly buses and 75 charging stations, worth 51 million euros. The documentation has been published on the electronic public procurement system, and the deadline for submitting bids is 30 March 2026.
Of the total number of buses, 100 are earmarked for Skopje, while the remaining 50 will be distributed among municipalities across the country. The tender winner must deliver the vehicles in three phases: 30 buses within six months, 60 buses by the end of 12 months, and a further 60 in the following six months.
If the deadlines are met, Skopje residents could see the first new electric buses on the streets still this year. The procurement is part of a broader strategy to modernise public transport and reduce air pollution.
In addition to the vehicles, the tender includes the construction of a network of 75 charging stations, to provide the operational infrastructure for maintaining the new fleet. The long-term economic justification also lies in lower maintenance costs and energy consumption.
The Ministry of Transport emphasised that the investment is a clear message in the fight against air pollution and the improvement of conditions for citizens who use public transport.
