TikTok suspended 34 fake profiles linked to election manipulation in Bulgaria, following an investigation by the Balkan Initiative for Media Freedom.

The network operated from Bulgaria and targeted the Bulgarian public ahead of the parliamentary elections in April 2026. The 34 profiles had 66,763 followers and coordinated cross-platform activities to artificially amplify narratives in support of the political party DPS-NN.

The article points to broader concerns about election integrity in Bulgaria. The country lacks a digital services coordinator and a systematic body for monitoring election interference.

Despite public evidence of social media manipulation weeks before the elections, Bulgaria's Central Election Commission did not launch investigations into the purchase and use of pages for electoral purposes. Meta (Facebook) also did not take action against the described networks.
