American President Donald Trump, frustrated with NATO allies over the issues surrounding the Strait of Hormuz and Greenland, is considering withdrawing some of the US military forces stationed in Europe.

A final decision has not been made, and the White House has not instructed the Pentagon to develop specific plans for troop reductions, confirmed an official who spoke on condition of anonymity.

The discussions show how much relations between Washington and European allies have deteriorated in recent months. The US currently has over 80,000 military personnel in Europe - more than 30,000 in Germany, with significant numbers in Italy, the United Kingdom and Spain.

Trump has long had a turbulent relationship with NATO, accusing European capitals of insufficient defense spending. The last three months have been particularly stormy, with renewed threats to annex Greenland and the conflict with Iran that erupted on February 28.

According to reports, officials discussed relocating troops from countries whose leaders criticized the US to countries offering greater support. However, Trump is specifically discussing bringing soldiers back to the US, rather than relocating them.
