US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke by phone about the conflicts in Iran and Ukraine, the Kremlin confirmed. The approximately one-hour conversation took place under intense geopolitical tensions, and both sides described it as "substantive." Kremlin foreign policy aide Yuri Ushakov stated the discussion will likely have practical significance for future bilateral relations.

Trump said he had a "very good conversation" with Putin and stressed that the Russian president could be of greater help in the region: "If you end the fighting in Ukraine, that would be more helpful." Putin warned of the risks of a broader global crisis if the conflict with Iran continues, noting that a suspension of oil production linked to the Strait of Hormuz could soon become a reality.

The war in Iran has already caused serious disruptions to the energy market. Oil prices rose sharply, with US gasoline prices averaging $3.48 per gallon – an increase of nearly 17 percent since the US-Israeli strikes began on February 28. In this context, the US administration is considering partial easing of sanctions on Russian oil, aiming to increase global supply and stabilize prices.

Putin confirmed that Russia is ready to resume cooperation with European clients for long-term energy supply contracts. Trump, in turn, requested greater Russian engagement in diplomatic efforts for Ukraine. The conversation comes at a moment when the geopolitical landscape is under intense pressure, and the potential rapprochement of Washington and Moscow around energy and Ukraine questions represents a significant diplomatic signal.
