Zakharova: EU Has Been Blackmailing Belgrade for Years Instead of Helping with Kosovo Talks

Maria Zakharova, spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, emphasized that Kosovo and Metohija represent "an integral part of Serbia" with a status of broad autonomy, as defined in the Serbian Constitution. She invoked UN Security Council Resolution 1244, which confirms Serbia's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Zakharova criticized the EU's approach, claiming that "this process has long since turned into a politicized game of deception, with which Brussels increases pressure on Belgrade". She further stated that the EU "has been blackmailing Belgrade for years" instead of offering genuine assistance in Kosovo negotiations.

Zakharova pointed out that European written guarantees from 2013 regarding the formation of the Community of Serbian Municipalities in the region "have long been forgotten in Brussels", while the EU simultaneously allows Pristina authorities to continue demographic changes in the province.
