Haaland: a century in 139 games, without a single penalty

Erling Haaland scored twice in Manchester City's 3-2 win over Ipswich at the Etihad and reached 100 Premier League goals without penalties - in just 139 games. According to Opta, nobody in the league's history has hit that number so quickly. He headed the first after half an hour, scored the second from an Iliman Ndiaye pass in the second half, and had a third ruled out for offside five minutes from time. The Norwegian is 26 and has eight league goals, three more than João Pedro and Alexander Isak. The only game he didn't score in was the opening-day match against Bournemouth, and even in the 2-4 defeat to PSG in the Champions League he reached 60 goals in that competition faster than anyone and overtook Sergio Agüero as City's top scorer in Europe.

Real lose the appeal: Vinícius misses El Clásico

The appeals committee of the Spanish Football Federation rejected Real Madrid's appeal, so Vinícius Júnior remains suspended for four matchdays. Two for the red card against Villarreal, when he pulled an opponent's hair, and two more because he then went for the referee and his teammates had to calm him down. The Brazilian misses Sevilla, Racing Santander, Barcelona and Valencia, and Real visit Camp Nou on 25 October. The club is expected to take the case to the Administrative Court of Sport, but according to the committee the footage confirms the referee's version. José Mourinho has alternatives, among them Endrick, who came on for him in the 4-3 win over Roma - and one goal and three assists in ten games aren't the kind of numbers Vinícius can use to defend himself against the criticism at the Bernabéu.

Wirtz: nine chances in one game and an answer for the critics

Florian Wirtz created nine chances from open play in Liverpool's away win at Brentford - more than any player in a single Premier League game in the last six seasons, according to Sofascore. Brentford went ahead through Keane Lewis-Potter in the 44th minute, Yegor Yarmolyuk was then sent off for headbutting Jérémie Jacquet in the penalty area, and Wirtz sent Víctor Muñoz through alone on goal for the equaliser. Alexander Isak got the winner in the 70th minute. With 18 chances created this season, the German now shares first place with Brighton's Pascal Gross. There's another side to the same evening: he lost the ball 19 times and won only one of nine duels. On Tuesday against Villarreal at Anfield we'll see whether this was a turning point or just a good Saturday.

Dimitrievski keeps a clean sheet, Valencia stay rooted to the bottom

Macedonian international Stole Dimitrievski started and didn't concede in the 0-0 draw between Valencia and Athletic Bilbao at Mestalla, in La Liga's ninth round. Before the break he saved Iñaki Williams' shot and was solid in goal until the final whistle. The problem is that a clean sheet doesn't bring a win: Valencia again failed to win at home and, with six points, sit 19th, second from bottom. At the other end Unai Simón saved Athletic from several clear chances, including one where Otorbi dribbled past him and still missed. When the goalkeeper is the most reliable man in the team, is Valencia's problem really the defence?

Shkendija Arachinovo and the FFM: a war of press releases after a VAR penalty

Shkendija Arachinovo lost 0-2 to Struga Trim Lum in the 10th round of the First League, and the real match started after the final whistle. In the 24th minute referee Vlatko Ilioski, after a VAR review, awarded Struga a penalty and showed a straight red card to the home defender who pulled down the striker before a clear chance. The FFM claims that club officials and unofficial persons entered the referees' dressing room for the second time this season and hurled insults, and announces disciplinary proceedings. The club hit back that Ilioski insulted captain Besir Demiri, that the referee later apologised to him, and accused the federation president of waiting for the club's management at the exit after the match against Vardar - "Release the footage," Arachinovo demands. When the league has VAR but the argument is still fought through press releases, who is actually protecting the reputation of Macedonian football?
