PIF are going back to a small stage and a quiet sound. On October 24 the Sofia band plays an acoustic concert at Bar Petak in Sofia, and the same night premieres the animated video for "Opus 2", from their latest album "PIF 6". Doors at 20:00, the concert starts at 21:00.
PIF formed in Sofia in 1992 and play alternative pop-rock. Their 2000 debut "Patriots in Fashion" won album of the year, and the songs "Prikazka", "Kolelo" and "Vali" opened the door to a wider audience. Then came "Pictures in Frames", "Passion in Fact", "PIF 4", "PIF 5" and, in 2021, "PIF 6". Singer and songwriter Dimo Stoyanov died of COVID-19 on December 21, 2020, at the age of 45. The band carried on with Ivan Velkov, Yuri Bozhinov and Martin Profirov, and the night is billed as a tribute to his memory and to friendship.
The "Opus 2" video is not an ordinary clip. The animation brings to life an idea of Dimo's own, and behind it stands Theodore Ushev's experimental techniques class at NATFIZ. Ushev is the Montreal-based Bulgarian animator whose short film "Blind Vaysha" was nominated for an Oscar in 2017. The students are credited with directing, filming and editing. So a song by a band that lost its voice gets its images from the class of a man who made it to the Oscars.
Tickets come in three waves: 15 euros in the first, 18 euros regular and 20 euros on the day of the show, or roughly 924 to 1,232 denars, through bilet.bg. There are no reservations and a ticket does not guarantee a seat, so it is better to come early. An acoustic night from a band without its founder: whether it sounds like a farewell or a continuation, only the stage will tell.
