This morning around 05:40 a truck and a passenger vehicle collided on the Skopje ring road, on the stretch between Butel and Mirkovci heading towards Mirkovci. According to the Interior Ministry, via the Skopje Internal Affairs Sector, one of the drivers was injured in the crash.

It wasn't the only crash that woke the city. The same morning, in the Aerodrom area, a motorcycle and a car collided, and the two incidents together created congestion on Skopje's roads at exactly the hour when people set off for work.

The ring road has for years been one of the most dangerous places to drive in Skopje - speeds no one respects, trucks and passenger vehicles mixed in the same lane, and insufficient lighting on parts of the route. Every crash like this becomes news for a moment, and is forgotten the next day - until the next one. How many injured drivers will it take before someone seriously deals with the safety of this stretch, rather than just counting collisions?
