Crews from the Municipality of Čair, together with surveying experts, went out on the ground to pin down the exact route of Cvetan Dimov Boulevard. According to mayor Izet Mexhiti, this is a concrete step towards widening the road, which is supposed to improve the connection between Čair, Butel, Šuto Orizari and the surrounding municipalities.
"For me, this project is more than an infrastructure investment - it is the fulfilment of a promise and an answer to a need citizens have had for years. Promises are only worth something when they turn into concrete work," Mexhiti said. He added that the reactions from residents on the ground have been extremely positive.
Fixing the route matters, but it is still only step one. The municipality's statement gives no date for construction to begin, and mentions neither the estimated cost nor where the money will come from.
Mexhiti is right that promises are only worth something once they become work. Which is why the real test will not be the day the surveyors showed up, but the day the excavators roll in. When will that day come - and whose budget will pay for it?
