Drugs Hidden in CD Cases From France: American Arrested, the Scanner Doesn't Read by the Cover

An American citizen has been arrested in Skopje after the customs administration uncovered drugs hidden in parcels of CD and DVD cases that had arrived from France. The parcels contained 12.5 grams of methamphetamine, 20 grams of MDMA, 8 grams of cocaine, an undetermined quantity of marijuana and 33 ampoules of testosterone.

The discovery started from a routine check. When the parcels arrived at the customs office in the Postal Centre, customs officers ran a scanner check and noticed something suspicious. The mobile customs team then confirmed the contents with the help of a detection dog and special equipment.

During a search of the home of the suspect, marked with the initials Dž.E., two more glass vials with green plant matter were found, along with two glass pipes for smoking marijuana and the testosterone ampoules. A criminal complaint will be filed against him with the public prosecutor's office.

A method as old as the post itself - hide the drugs in something harmless and wait for them to pass. Except the scanner doesn't read by the cover. The case shows that even the simplest trick ends the same way when there's equipment on the other side that sees deeper than the eye. The only question is how many parcels like this get through before one gets stuck at the scanner.
