In the Skopje Sever neighbourhood, reconstruction has begun on Kosturska Street, together with two car parks and access paths. The most interesting detail is also the most modest one: according to Butel mayor Darko Kostovski, the street will get a pavement for the first time, so pedestrians can walk safely.

"We will fully reconstruct the biggest car park in this neighbourhood, as well as the smaller car park right next to the 'Arsenij Jovkov' secondary school. Kosturska Street, the access road to these two car parks, will also be completely reconstructed," Kostovski posted on social media. According to him, residents have been asking for this for years.

The municipality says it is investing more than 65 million denars in projects in Skopje Sever. "This is the biggest construction offensive under way in Skopje Sever," Kostovski said.

An offensive with a few objections. Under the mayor's post, some residents said that when something is built, it should be built properly - and checked once it's finished. One resident pointed to the example of the car park at 5 Skoevska Street: after it was built, rainwater had nowhere to drain and, as she puts it, undermined their entire building, so the residents now have to repair it themselves.

A first pavement on an access road in 2026 is news that is both welcome and embarrassing. The people of Skopje Sever waited a long time for it. Now they need one more thing - for the pavement and the car park not to bring a new problem with water.
