The most notorious band in the history of black metal is coming to Sofia. Mayhem play on October 9, 2026 at the „Hristo Botev” hall in Studentski grad, as part of the second leg of the „Death Over Europe” tour. Joining them on stage as special guests are the Swedish veterans Marduk, which means one night in Sofia gathers the two names around which the entire Norwegian-Swedish black metal mythology is built.

Mayhem was founded in Norway in 1984 and is not a band that became a legend because of the music alone. The story around it is darker than any song: the death of singer Per Yngve Ohlin, known as Dead, in 1991; the killing of guitarist Øystein Aarseth, known as Euronymous, two years later; and the church burnings that marked the Norwegian scene of the early nineties. The 1994 album „De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas” remained a reference point for the entire genre, and the band kept working through all of it, without changing its sound for a larger audience.

They come to Sofia with fresh material. „Liturgy of Death” came out on February 6, 2026 through Century Media Records and is their first full album since „Daemon” in 2019. It is the seventh studio album in a career spanning more than forty years, and the theme is the one the band has always worked with most directly: death as a universal law rather than an end. Marduk, on stage as special guests, come from the Swedish side of the same story and have a discography of their own running since the nineties.

The event is set for 7.30 pm, and tickets are sold through bilet.bg at 78.23 leva, around 2,464 denars. For an audience from Macedonia that follows extreme metal genres this is one of the closer chances to see the band live, because the October leg of the tour focuses on eastern and central Europe and does not pass through the region every year.
