The second night of the Skopje Jazz Festival comes from the north. On 16 October at the National Opera and Ballet, Norwegian guitarist Eivind Aarset plays with sampler Jan Bang, then the Icelandic duo Skúli Sverrisson and Ólöf Arnalds, and the evening closes with the live remix of Erik Honoré and Jan Bang. Tickets are 800 denars, doors at 20:00.

Aarset and Bang have worked together since the early nineties, in line-ups with Nils Petter Molvær, Bugge Wesseltoft, Sly & Robbie and Jon Hassell. Aarset is a guitarist whose sound is largely built through effects, and their joint work - the ECM album "Dream Logic" among it - blends dub, contemporary classical and fifties pop, stitched together by Bang's signature sampling. Skúli Sverrisson is an Icelandic composer and bassist, and Ólöf Arnalds' voice has been described as clear as a mountain spring, in The New York Times and Rolling Stone.

The closing set is what the Norwegians are known for. Bang and Honoré have run the Punkt festival in Kristiansand since 2005, and that is where they developed the live remix: while the concert is still playing, they sample material from it, then, immediately after the set, perform a new live concert out of those fragments. It is not a DJ set and it is not a recording - it is a second concert assembled from the musical memory of the first.

Which means the audience on 16 October will hear something that does not exist before that evening and will not exist again. Skopje is one of the few places where Punkt take the format outside Norway. Tickets are 800 denars through mktickets.mk, or within the festival pass for all four nights.
