Two Pensioners Aged 82 and 73 Attacked in Kisela Voda - the Attacker Decades Younger

Two pensioners, aged 82 and 73, were physically attacked in Kisela Voda in Skopje. According to police, the incident took place on 3 June at around 20:25, and the attacker is a 39-year-old man from Skopje. The case has been reported to the police station, and the Interior Ministry says „measures are being taken to fully clarify the case.”

The two victims are from the most vulnerable group there could possibly be - people in their eighties and seventies, attacked by a man decades younger than them. Police so far reveal no motive, nor whether the attacker and the victims know each other. All that remains are the ages and the place - and those, sadly, say enough.

When a 39-year-old attacks an 82-year-old, the question isn't only what happened that evening, but what kind of environment it is in which something like this becomes just one news item among many similar ones. How many times do we read about attacks on the elderly before someone asks why they are becoming so frequent? Clarifying this case is the police's job - but caring that our oldest fellow citizens don't feel unsafe on their own street is everyone's job.
