Lilibet Turns Five: Harry and Meghan's Daughter Grows Up on a Different Continent From Her Crown

Lilibet Diana, the younger daughter of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, turns five years old today - and her name already carries a whole story of a family divided between two continents.

Born in Santa Barbara, California, in 2021, she is the only great-grandchild of Queen Elizabeth II to come into the world outside British soil. The name is no accident: „Lilibet" was the queen's own affectionate name, and the second name, Diana, is a tribute to the paternal grandmother - the princess Harry lost as a child.

The family lives in Montecito, Florida, far from the lenses. Harry and Meghan keep strict control over when and how photographs of the children appear - a choice that in an era of constant sharing feels almost rebellious. The rare shots show Lilibet hunting for Easter eggs, on Halloween, on an outing to Disneyland where she recently looked noticeably grown.

One feature immediately sets her apart - the red hair inherited from her father, a Spencer family trait that has become her most recognizable mark. After the queen's death, both Lilibet and the older Archie automatically became prince and princess as grandchildren of King Charles III. A title - which they carry from afar.

And here lies the paradox the Balkans understand well: a child with a royal title growing up on another continent, with grandparents who watch them through a screen. How much is heritage worth when the family is split apart? A question no crown can answer.
