American actor James Handy, known for roles in „Jumanji” and „Top Gun: Maverick”, has been found dead with a stab wound to the chest, at the age of 81. The body was discovered on Wednesday in Tarzana, California. The suspect is no stranger - he is the 44-year-old son of his girlfriend, who called the police himself and, according to Los Angeles police, confessed with the words „I just killed the man of sin.”

Police arrived after the call and found Handy in his yard, unconscious, with a knife wound. He was taken to hospital but died on arrival. The suspect, Michael Gledhill, has been arrested and charged with murder, with bail set at 2 million dollars (around 1.7 million euros). He remains in custody. The detail that makes the case even harder is precisely that the call for help was made by the perpetrator himself.

Handy was one of those actors whose face you recognise even when you don't know the name. A long career in supporting roles across major films and series: „Arachnophobia”, „The Sixth Sense”, „Logan”, „NYPD Blue”, „Alias”, „Castle”, „NCIS: Los Angeles”, „Criminal Minds”. He worked with directors like Sidney Lumet, Clint Eastwood and M. Night Shyamalan. His last role was in „Top Gun: Maverick” in 2023, as the bartender Jimmy.

His agency sent its final farewell with simple words: „We couldn't have wished for a more talented, humble and better client and friend than James Handy.” Behind every such sentence for an actor in a supporting role is a whole life played out at the margins of the frame - those characters without whom the big names would have nothing to shine against.
