Amalia Brings Out Century-Old Tiaras: The Young Heir Wraps Herself in History

While her peers chase the latest trends, the heir to the Dutch throne, 22-year-old Amalia, goes in the opposite direction - she brings century-old tiaras out of the vault. And it's no accident. Every piece of jewellery she puts on her head carries a message: I am next in line, and I know that line better than you.

At the gala for the coming-of-age of Norwegian Princess Ingrid Alexandra, Amalia chose the Stuart Tiara - the same one her mother, Queen Máxima, wore at her wedding in 2002. At the reception before the wedding in Jordan she wore the Peacock Tiara, and at the 18th birthday of Danish Prince Christian - the sapphire tiara that once belonged to Queen Emma. This is not a fashion choice, but a dynastic statement.

The most impressive is the Mellerio ruby tiara - 385 precious stones, rubies and diamonds, crafted by the historic French house at the end of the 19th century. Amalia first posed with it at just eight years old, and today she wears it at state events. The leap from a childhood photo to a state ceremony is exactly what monarchies do best: turning jewellery into a message about continuity.

There is something calculated in all of this. At a time when European monarchies are struggling to stay relevant, the young heir isn't trying to be „modern“ or „ordinary“ - she deliberately wraps herself in history. Tiaras are a heavy way of saying that something lasts longer than one term, one government, one generation. And in that, admit it, there is a certain calm that is almost unknown to us in the Balkans, where everything changes every four years.
