Danny Glover Reveals He Has Alzheimer's: "This Isn't the End of My Life, There's Still Work to Do"

The face generations remember from "Lethal Weapon" has spoken about something far harder than any role. Danny Glover, who turns 80 on July 22, revealed that he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 2022. He shared the news publicly only now, in July 2026, in an interview - a few months after receiving an honorary Oscar for humanitarian work.

"I'm still not fully at peace with it," the actor said. The symptoms, he says, are slowed movement, slower speech and memory problems. But it's exactly how he talks about the illness that sets him apart from the usual statements about health conditions: no self-pity, no plea for sympathy. "This isn't the end of my life. There's still work to finish."

The changes were first noticed by his daughter Mandisa back in 2022, when she saw her father dropping parts of stories he had told for years. Since then she has taken on his care, but with one clear intention - that he remain the master of his own story. Hence the decision to announce the news himself, rather than have someone else speak on his behalf.

The reason he went public at all is simple: to raise awareness and help people going through the same thing. Glover, who beyond film has for decades been outspoken on civil rights and social justice, turned this personal battle too into something bigger than himself. There's dignity in a person naming the very thing we fear most - forgetting who we are - and still saying the work goes on.
