After nearly three years together, two of them as a marriage and a child born right after the wedding, model Ayla Etemović has ended her relationship with former footballer Jota Peleteiro. She wrote the announcement herself on social media: "Some endings are the best form of freedom. I am leaving behind what no longer nourishes me." Translation for the next round of podcasts: this is not a story where the two agree to part, this is a woman putting in a full stop.

Etemović - of Bosnian origin - went on camera on the Spanish show ¡De Viernes! and did not leave it for guesswork. The main reason for the break: infidelity. "I did not catch him with another woman, but I saw things on his phone that prove an extramarital relationship. They were terrible messages for our marriage. I was trying to save it, and he was laughing at me, planning a divorce and having sexual conversations while I was at home looking after Malik."

Not once, but twice. "To my knowledge there were two. He didn't flirt with the first one as much, so I forgave him and gave him another chance." What followed is the kind of sentence rarely heard on a prime-time show: "You laugh at me while I bury my father? The same man who came to the funeral in tears and swore to my dead father that he would look after me."

Ironically, the same evening Etemović sits down on the set in Telecinco, a photograph comes out that the Spanish celebrity world reads as a coded sentence: Miriam Cruz and Pablo Marquez together on a beach with ice cream, captioned "Self-fulfilling prophecy". Cruz was at one point Jota Peleteiro's fiancée; Marquez had a short romance with Jessica Bueno, Peleteiro's ex-wife. All equally entwined, and all with reason to whisper among themselves.

Jessica Bueno, also present in the studio, did not show surprise. "I didn't know if they would separate, but I could predict she would find out what kind of man he is." A statement that in a few words sums up ten years of history. For those not following Spanish social media: this is the chapter of a soap opera that only goes quiet when one of the sides says aloud what the others have been thinking - and Etemović today was that side.
