Azymuth play Peti kupe in Zagreb on October 1, 2026, starting at 8 pm. The Brazilian trio who have spent half a century producing what they themselves call „samba doido”, or crazy samba, are coming to a club space where the audience stands a few metres from the instruments.

Azymuth was founded in 1975 by keyboardist José Roberto Bertrami, bassist Alex Malheiros and drummer Ivan Conti. Their sound is a fusion of electric jazz, pop, Brazilian popular music, samba, tropical disco and electronics - a combination that did not exist as a genre in the seventies and that they had to name themselves.

The 1979 album „Light as a Feather” delivered the hit „Jazz Carnival”, which held the British top twenty for eight straight weeks. It is a recording that never stopped living after its commercial peak. Since then it has been core repertoire for DJs from completely different scenes: Kerri Chandler, Floating Points, Four Tet, Mr. Scruff, Gilles Peterson, Dan Snaith and Danilo Plessow have all spun it. Few recordings from that era have passed through so many generations of dance floors without sounding like a relic.

Ivan Conti died in 2023, and the drum seat was taken by Renato Calmon, known as Massa, who plays on the 2025 album „Marca Passo”, released for the band's fiftieth anniversary. Tickets are 20 euros, roughly 1,232 denars, plus a booking fee, sold through entrio.hr. For a Zagreb club of this capacity, that is a price you almost never see for a band with this history.
