Bonnie Tyler in Hospital in Portugal After Emergency Intestinal Surgery - Concerts for 50 Years of Lost in France Cancelled

Bonnie Tyler, the 74-year-old Welsh singer best known for „Total Eclipse of the Heart" and „It's a Heartache", is in a hospital in Portugal after emergency intestinal surgery. The singer's team confirmed that „a perforation was found" which required immediate surgical intervention. Tyler had already been recovering from a previous procedure at her home in the Algarve when complications arose.

The health crisis caused the cancellation of a concert scheduled for 30 May at Germany's Open Air LIVE festival. It was part of a European tour marking the 50th anniversary of the album Lost in France - the first album that opened the doors to international success in the distant 1976. Half a century later, the body does not allow touring.

Tyler's family expressed unhappiness with media speculation, saying they are „very disappointed by the many unconfirmed and unfounded claims circulating in the media". The last official statement, on 12 May, described her condition as „serious but stable", with hopes of positive progress.

From then until today - two weeks of silence. That does not necessarily mean negative news. Very often, when the family of a public figure goes quiet, it is because they do not want to give the press material for misinterpretation. Plainly: nothing new that is certain. That is all.

Bonnie Tyler built a career of 40+ years with a voice that sounds as if it were scraped with sandpaper. The 1983 hit „Total Eclipse" remains among the best-selling singles in the history of British pop music. Now, at 74, she is fighting for something far more significant than a concert tour - she is fighting for more time.
