Olympiacos is once again the king of Europe. The Greek giant beat Real Madrid 92:85 in the 2026 EuroLeague final and took its fourth title in the club's history - after the long wait since 2013. Coach Yorgos Bartzokas did not hide his satisfaction: „We earned it. We worked for this all season long."
The final was not easy. Real Madrid came in with a cold hand and a brilliant opening third - Trey Lyles finished with 24 points, Mario Hezonja with 19, and Andres Feliz with 13. Bartzokas acknowledged that the Spanish club played an excellent game. „We suffered today. Real Madrid played a great game, that is why they are a great club. But we managed to win."
The key was defence in the second quarter. Olympiacos put Lyles on switch defence, sometimes even with a trap press. Hezonja was harder to stop, hitting tough shots, but the discipline in the final minutes was enough. Evan Fournier finished as Olympiacos's top scorer with 20 points, Alec Peters added 16, Sasha Vezenkov 12, and Thomas Walkup 10.
This title is not just statistics. Olympiacos was previously champion in 1997, 2012 and 2013 - three titles collected within 16 years. Now, after 13 years of waiting, the team is back at the top of European basketball. It is also a win for the southern European school - Greek basketball, which in recent years has battled with Italian and Spanish clubs for dominance.
For Real Madrid, this is the continuation of a difficult season. Sergio Scariolo accepted the loss with composure, emphasising that he was proud of his team. Bartzokas, in turn, dedicated the win to the owners, the players and the fans. „They deserve all the congratulations. Everything that is happening today, we did together," the Olympiacos coach said.
