Driver Seriously Injures Chinese Worker on the Ohrid-Kičevo Highway: Detained on Prosecutor's Order

On the Ohrid-Kičevo highway, which has been under construction for years, the concrete spoke again - this time with a seriously injured worker. The driver of a Mercedes lost control, hit a pothole on the roadway, then crashed into a worker from China who was carrying out roadworks. The driver was detained on the public prosecutor's order.

According to police, the accident happened on June 15 at 7:55 a.m., near the village of Orovnik in Debarca. The driver, a 32-year-old man from the Struga area, was driving a vehicle with Struga plates when he lost control. The 46-year-old worker, a Chinese citizen, suffered serious bodily injuries; the driver himself was also hurt. Both were treated at the Ohrid „Sveti Erazmo" hospital. Appropriate charges will follow once the documentation is completed.

The number of foreign workers on Macedonian construction sites is growing, especially on major infrastructure projects. But the safety of those same sites remains a question no one answers for before something happens. How many times has the route of this highway already been the scene of accidents and delays - and yet, when a person is injured, the reaction is always the same: detention, investigation, silence until the news passes.
