On the red carpet, the line between jewellery and investment was erased long ago. A star's necklace, bag or pair of boots is often worth more than a flat in Skopje - and sometimes more than the whole building.

Zendaya wore a Bvlgari Magnifica necklace to the 2021 Oscars, with a 6-carat yellow diamond and around 135 carats of diamonds. Its value was estimated at around 6 million euros - and it is not hers. The brand lent it to her for the night, which is standard practice: the star is the shop window, and the jewellery goes back into the safe.

Taylor Swift wore Lorraine Schwartz earrings in white gold, purple sapphires, Paraíba tourmalines and diamonds to the 2023 Grammy Awards; together with the rings they were valued at around 2.8 million euros. Her collection also includes jewellery referencing her partner Travis Kelce, among it NFL-themed pendants worth over 12,000 euros.

Timothée Chalamet owns custom Timberland boots made with Chrome Hearts, whose price can reach 30,000 euros, a diamond Cartier watch valued at 46,000 dollars, and a Bob Dylan jacket he bought in 2025 for 23,000 euros.

Kim Kardashian owns a Hermès Diamond Himalaya bag in Nile crocodile skin, with 18-carat white gold hardware and diamonds. A bag of that model fetched 349,000 euros at auction in 2017.

Beyoncé wore the Tiffany & Co. necklace with the 128-carat yellow diamond in 2021, valued at 30 million dollars. Before her, that diamond was worn by Audrey Hepburn in 1961 and by Lady Gaga at the 2019 Oscars.

Sarah Jessica Parker wore a Solange Azagury-Partridge necklace in "Sex and the City 2", valued at 232,480 dollars, or around 206,000 euros.

What do these numbers tell us? That celebrity luxury is less and less a matter of taste and more and more a matter of marketing - part of what we see in the photos was never theirs, just borrowed for one night. Next time a brand tells you that you "deserve" an expensive bag, remember that even Zendaya only had her necklace on loan.
