Beaten, Burned with Cigarettes, Filmed: Brutal Peer Violence in Gjorče Petrov

Sixth grade, a girl from Gjorče Petrov. Three older girls - beating, humiliation, burning with cigarettes. All filmed on mobile phones. The incident occurred in broad daylight, in a park near the old wolf sculpture - symbol of the municipality - meters from the police station. The next day, the video was online.

The Interior Ministry confirmed that a report was received, official interviews with parents were conducted, and material evidence was collected. Coordination with the Basic Public Prosecution is ongoing. That is the institutional response. But the question is bigger: this is not the first case. In Skopje alone, similar incidents have occurred several times in recent months.

International analyses show that "around ten percent of children aged 11-15 experience peer violence multiple times monthly." The Ombudsman warned that peer violence is "most prevalent in primary schools," that reports are increasing, and that the actual situation is more serious because digital violence is rarely reported.

The Ministry of Digital Transformation is not considering banning social media for children under 15 - they consider that radical. The solution, they say, is education and digital literacy. The next time a child is burned with a cigarette - they will send another brochure.
