Fake Clubs and Phantom Matches: Football Federation Officials in Valandovo Under Investigation Over 1.35 Million Denars

Fake clubs, phantom matches that were never played, and money that ended up where it shouldn't - that is the picture painted by the charges against two officials of the Municipal Football Association in Valandovo.

Under investigation are the association's 66-year-old president and its 54-year-old secretary, against whom the Investigative Center in Strumica filed a complaint for fraud in office and forgery of official documents. According to the indictment, between 2021 and 2025 they registered several football clubs for the municipal league - clubs that did not even meet the minimum player requirements set by the Football Federation.

Why? Because more clubs meant more delegates in the FFM Assembly - delegates who then received illegal payments. The bill for this scheme, according to the investigation, comes to around 1,350,000 denars. On top of that, they are charged with creating false match records featuring made-up participants, for games that were never played at all.

If the charges hold up, this is a small but precise picture of how grift works on the edges of the system. Not millions, not big names - just a local association where someone figured out that even football at its lowest level can be turned into a personal cash machine. And that is exactly why it matters: when nobody bothers with the small schemes, they become the template. The question is whether the case ends in a verdict, or gets lost like so many others - quietly, in a drawer.
