Nine of fourteen are not classical

From October 14 to December 28 the Macedonian Philharmonic has 14 concerts in the events calendar. Only five of them are classical music. The other nine are nights of hits, from Galija and Boban Rajović to tributes to Pink Floyd and Queen. A hall built for a symphony orchestra will be filled this autumn more often by people who know the songs by heart than by people who know the opus numbers.

Stefanovski goes acoustic, Galija closes the year

Vlatko Stefanovski plays an acoustic night with friends on December 17 at 8 pm, with acoustic instruments only. Tickets run from 1,500 to 2,500 denars. Eleven days later, on December 28, Galija from Niš bring their "50 Years with You" jubilee, with tickets at 1,050 denars.

Boban Rajović returns to Macedonia after a break of several years on December 12, with the "Ruža sa juga" programme and tickets from 1,300 to 1,900 denars. Koki Jankov of Dule i Koki marks 30 years of "Violin and Guitar" on November 14, with tickets from 1,000 denars.

Škugor, Rundek, Kamiloski and the two tributes

Marko Škugor sings in Skopje for the first time on October 17. Darko Rundek arrives with Haustor and Ekipa on November 5. The Numb tribute brings Pink Floyd's songs with lasers and projections on November 20, and the very next night, November 21, Queen Sensation plays the hits of Queen. Pavle Kamiloski sings Italian canzoni and Macedonian evergreens with a chamber orchestra on December 4.

The classical side: Trpčeski, Rachmaninoff and the "Three Tenors"

The five classical nights open with "Romansijada" in the Chamber Hall on October 14. Simon Trpčeski plays Chopin, Grieg and Shostakovich on November 2, David Khrikuli plays Rachmaninoff's Second Concerto on November 12, and British trumpeter Matilda Lloyd performs on November 26. The classical programme ends on December 24 with the "Three Tenors" at the New Year's Gala Concert.

Prices are published by the ticket sellers, and every date, hall and ticket link is in Metla's events calendar.
