The season of smelling burning garbage in Skopje has officially started. Vardarishtë was burning in the afternoon, and by evening the dump near Arachinovo joined in. Two landfills on Skopje's territory, on the same day, as if on cue.

Every year - the same story. Spring arrives, temperatures rise, dumps catch fire. Nobody knows who sets them ablaze, nobody is responsible, and Skopje's residents breathe smoke. April 2026 is no different from April 2025, 2024, or 2023.

Did anyone really expect otherwise? The dumps are here, oversight isn't, and Skopje residents are once again closing their windows and wondering why they pay taxes.
