Zvonko Bogdan sings at Sava Centar on 21 October, accompanied by the tamburitza orchestra of Radio Television Vojvodina. Eighty-four years old, and still on stage in Belgrade's largest concert hall.

He was born in Sombor in 1942. The road to singing was not a straight one - he enrolled in a business school, then moved to Belgrade at nineteen intending to study at the Theatre Academy. He had nothing to live on, so he started performing in kafanas. That is where he realised that song, not acting, was his real calling. Since 1963 he has been singing at the Kalemegdan Terrace.

What sets him apart from the pop scene around him is the range. Bogdan is not only a singer - he is also a composer, painter, poet and jockey. His repertoire leans on original and traditional songs, especially those of the Bunjevci, performed with a tamburitza orchestra. "Ej, salaši", "Evo banke cigane moj", "Kad sam bio mlađan lovac", "Fijaker stari", "U tom Somboru" - songs known even to people who otherwise never listen to Vojvodina music.

The concert's slogan is "Memories of a time that will not come again", which from a performer of his generation sounds less like marketing and more like a statement of fact. Tickets via tickets.rs cost around 1,320 denars, and the show starts at 20:00.
