Peter Phillips Before 6 June: A Royal Wedding Without a Title, Without a Scandal, Without a Photo Shoot

One of the least anticipated weddings in the British royal house is on the horizon: Peter Phillips, son of Princess Anne, and Harriet Sperling, are marrying on 6 June. A couple with no title, in an interesting position - close to the crown, but never under it. That in itself is a political statement, and it may explain why this wedding doesn't carry the panic some others have in recent years.

The two were photographed a few days ago at Badminton Park in Gloucestershire, at one of England's biggest equestrian events. No announcements, no photo shoot - just hand-holding, smiles and a calm presence in a public place. Peter at 48, Harriet at 46, carry the balanced expression of an adult relationship. No theatre.

With them were his daughters from his first marriage - Savannah (15) and Isla (14), who took part in the equestrian competition. The younger one at one point approached her father and simply hugged him. That's the scene the media don't manage to choreograph - genuine, with no need for a glittering costume.

The wedding will be discreet, but not silent. Among the guests Zara and Mike Tindall are expected with their three children, along with most of the immediate royal family. No Prince Harry, no American scandals. Just a couple that, after one divorce, gets a second chance and that with no cameras planted on top of the chapel. In the Balkans we call this „healthy privacy" - something that in British tabloid culture looks like a luxury.
